I honestly don’t get this about a lot of people saying depression is spiritual and it’s the devil’s way of robbing your destiny.
Reason being they had this feeling of inadequacy at some point in time and was able to get out of it by someone talking to them and telling them how good they were and they saw reasons with the person and it worked.
Really?
Like huh?
Depression is more than just a feeling of worthlessness.
It’s neurological. Your dopamine levels are low and sometimes you’ll need antidepressants to lift your mood.
Certain situations trigger it off especially prolonged unhealthy state of the mind. Could be loss of a loved one, abuse, bullying, family drama, frustration from lack of a sense of fulfilment and even loneliness for a long time.
Until you’re diagnosed with depression don’t come out to say it’s spiritual because “I’ve been depressed” really?
This is what is killing us here.
Everything is spiritual, even the ones we create for ourselves
So someone is advising you not to get help but pray when you suffer from depression and you’re buying that idea?
I believe there is nothing Jesus can’t do but he healed the sick when he was on earth.
The centurion servant went to meet him. At that point Jesus was a doctor.
You need the doctors while you pray.
Faith without works is dead.
Even James made us to understand that.
There’s a big difference between having a depressive feeling or thought and suffering from depression to the point of being suicidal. Get help first, go to the hospital. Get some medications to lift your mood. Then stay in your healthy circle (church) to inspire your selfworth if you don’t believe in psychologists.
Your hormones need to be monitored as well. It’s not just about sadness and sleeping too much. It’s so much more. So much more!
Let’s stop encouraging all these negative shallow spirituality.
It kills more than it heals.
Give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God.
Stop all these unhealthy attitude towards depression.
Just say “it’s well” if you can’t offer any better thing instead of telling the person to pray.
That’s how a lot of children became victims from mothers who suffered postpartum depression that wasn’t taken care of.
A lot of people are suicidal these days because it’s a trend
Thanks to social media!
When you ask them, they’ll tell you they feel worthless and they just want to kill themselves and then they’ll heap it on depression.
You think it’s easy to take your own life?
Suicide that comes with depression is as a result of escape from pain.
Yes, a lot of suicidal people if given a second chance won’t take their lives.
Depression has a way of lowering your serotonin levels which is in charge of giving you a sense of well-being, not limited to that though and increases your cortisol level which can make you suffer severe anxiety and overwhelming pain and even high blood pressure.
For someone suffering from depression, the pain is triple the usual or more and sometimes the person’s muscles can just go stiff and numb.
At some point the person would begin to feel they are a burden to those around them.
The pain can be discomforting and in a bid to end the pain, they take ovedose and die; hence suicide.
Some in the process of trying to feel their numb body again slit their wrists and die; hence suicide.
Now you see
When you have someone suffering from depression, the person usually have anxiety disorder. Extreme paranoia.
Too much “what ifs”. They become withdrawn because they are usually disconnected from reality and feel no one would understand.
It’s the hormones and the brain causing these things.
It’s a medical condition.
Just like malaria.
It’s okay to feel sad but don’t dwell on it.
Don’t let it cross over.
Do you know that depression can cross over to bipolar?
And bipolar has no cure.
It’s even transferable from parents to children
It’s okay to be ignorant and make fun out of everything
But not with mental health. Be careful!
Wow Chidiogo, all you said is true. Nice write up. You should write more.
